Snowboards are boards ridden across snow covered slopes contained within mountains and valleys in the sport of snowboarding. A snowboard is often thought of as the winter time counter part to a surfboard or skateboard is during warmer weather.

There are many different styles of snowboards: Alpine Snowboards are designed for racing; Freeride Snowboards for long turns; Freestyle Snowboards for quick turns; All-Mountain Snowboards, which are hybrids; and Split Snowboards. They differ in length, width, sidecut, flexibility, and specific width of tail and/or nose. Snowboarding grew in popularity during the 1980s and 1990s, propelled as sport thanks to ESPN's Winter X Games, and now are featured as several events in the Winter Olympics.
